As a parent, one thing you might struggle with the most is keeping your home clean! Kids are cute, but they can be super messy and dirty at times and managing a home while they’re around can become frustrating. Let’s chat a little about some ways in which we can work around this and even get them excited about cleaning, too!
● Motivate them and praise good behavior!
Encouragement can go a long way! Once they’ve done a chore or task well, don’t hold back on the praise. Applaud their efforts and let them know how much you appreciated their assistance in completing what they did. This simple practice can get them to look forward to helping you more around the home and even encourage them to take initiative for the future.
● Turn chores into a game!
Instead of painting what needs to be done in a burdensome light, find small ways to turn chores responsibilities into games. You can do this by maybe putting a basketball hoop over the laundry bin or garbage to encourage them to put away their dirty laundry or rubbish properly. If they have siblings, you can treat chores like competitions and have them “ranked” based on who completes theirs first.
● Rewards!
Kids love rewards! This doesn’t even have to cost money! When they complete their chores, create a reward system at home. You can do this by allowing their reward “points” to accumulate and then giving them the opportunity to trade it in for something they enjoy- maybe extra television time, a later bedtime, their favorite meal etc!
