Sometimes you may not have a choice but to do a quick and speedy clean, however, it is important that we ensure that we’re not making a bunch of terrible mistakes in the process. The following includes some cleaning mistakes we should try to avoid!
Reusing rags
Always have multiple cloths and rags on hand when cleaning and use a fresh cloth to wipe each surface. Rags can be filled with bacteria and germs and you can run the risk of spreading these when using the same rag for multiple surfaces.
Ignoring the drains and disposal
Kitchen and bathroom sink drains should be cleaned regularly to prevent unpleasant and unwanted smells around your home.
Using disinfecting wipes on dirty surfaces
Cleaning and disinfecting are two different things. Use a cloth to wipe your dirty surface with soap and water, and then use your disinfecting wipes to sanitize.
Forgetting to clean your appliances
Ensure that you clean and maintain your appliances properly at least twice a year so that you can extend their life span and they can continue working effectively.
Neglecting bath toys
Have a baby in the house? When we ignore properly draining or cleaning their toys it can become a breeding ground for mold and bacteria! Ensure that these are dried, cleansed and disinfected regularly.
Not cleaning the toilet brush
Sometimes we may forget, but toilet brushes do not clean themselves. These can possibly breed germs if not cleaned and disinfected properly.
Rubbing carpet stains
Anytime you’ve made a mess- instead of rubbing the stain, blot it with an absorbent cloth or paper towel!
Forgetting to wash your pillows
Your sheets and pillows collect more germs than anywhere else! Make it your duty to wash these regularly.
Using bleach as an everyday cleaner
In some cases, bleach is a good option, however, most times bleach is too hard for certain jobs and should be used sparingly alongside an effective disinfectant. Consider more gentle cleansers when cleaning everyday surfaces.
Forgetting to wash your shower curtain
It may slip us, but, shower curtains should be washed often to reduce germs and dust in your bathroom.
